Abstract: A few theoretical models that relate magnetic activity with the orbital period changes of close binaries have been proposed. Using one of these formalisms, and assuming that the observed orbital period changes of a close binary are only due to magnetic activity of one of its components, it is possible to find the variation of the magnetic field of the active star. To achieve this the observed period variations of the binary are approximated by a variable sinusoidal term. This new approaching method is applied to one of the well-known active binaries, namely to RS CVn, the prototype of its class.
