Abstract: This is an exhaustive review of the benefits of the light travel effect for the detection and characterization of planetary systems. Astrometric timing of pulsars and eclipsing binaries allows the detection of planets around neutron stars and close binaries for which other methods are inoperative. Echoes of flaring stars on the planet surface may reveal a planet in the light curve of a star and constrain its radius and albedo. Finally the timing of "planetary events" provides a determination of the orbit inclination.
