Abstract: As part of a program to monitor solar-type stars for low-amplitude variability with the TSU/SAO 0.8-m automatic photoelectric telescope, a number of presumed late-G and K giants were used as comparison and check stars. Over two dozen have been found to be variable with amplitudes up to 7%. Spectroscopic observations have been obtained to determine additional characteristics, including spectral type, projected rotational velocity, and duplicity, of a subsample of those stars. Our observations show that photometric variability extends from the M0 giants into the K giants. The amplitude of variability decreases with earlier spectral type. The type of variability, pulsation, starspots, or a combination of the two, remains uncertain.
