Abstract: Markarian 501 was discovered as a source of very high energy gamma-rays by the Whipple Collaboration in Spring 1995. A database spanning four years of frequent observations is now available. The data have been scanned for flux variability on timescales ranging from years to minutes. Rapid variability would indicate a relatively compact emission region and may provide constraints on emission models. Evidence for significant variability on timescales as short as a few hours has been found. The results of this analysis will be presented.
