Abstract: |
A new method based on simultaneous contouring the image content with subsequent converting of the contours to a compact chained bit-flow, thus providing efficient spatial image compression, is proposed. It is computationally inexpensive and can be directly applied to compressing the high-resolution bitonal imagery, allowing to approach the ultimate speed performance. Combining the method with other compression schemes, for example, Huffman-type or arithmetic encoding, provides better lossless compression to the current telecommunication compression standards. The problems of method application to compressing the color images for remote sensing and mapping applications, as well as lossy method implementation, are discussed. |
