Abstract: We present a new technique to model the dynamics of galaxies and the results of some tests it has undergone. It is a ``direct fitting'' technique, which means that the fit is performed directly on the galaxy spectra. It does not make use of any parameterization of the line-of-sight velocity distributions (LOSVDs) and hence uses all the information on the LOSVD shapes that is contained in the spectra. This should make it a valuable tool in constraining the shape, extent and mass of dark matter halos around elliptical galaxies. We also focus on the method's ability to include more than one stellar template in the fit and test whether it is possible to infer from absorption line spectra the dynamics of different stellar populations.
