Abstract: Eta Carinae is a massive evolved star that is undergoing prodigious and highly convulsive mass loss. The Eta Carinae Treasury Team (P.I. Kris Davidson) recently conducted an ambitious monitoring campaign with HST to examine this object's surprisingly regular variability cycle. Here we report on some early results from observations of the bright ejection knot known as Weigelt blob D. The main goals of this study are to i) characterize better the abundances and physical conditions in Eta Car's inner ejecta, and ii) use the nebular emission line spectrum to place new constraints on the variable (perhaps binary) nature of the central source.
