Abstract: |
Infrared spectroscopy with the Infrared Space Observatory of dust around young and evolved stars has yielded a very rich harvest of new solid state bands that can be used to determine the composition and origin of the dust. For the first time quantitative mineralogy of dust is possible. The evolution of dust from their formation sites (red giants) to their incorporation into stars and planets can now be studied in detail. |
