Abstract: |
We present rotationally resolved spectroscopic observations of asteroid Vesta in the 19.4-27.6 μm wavelength range. Spectral features in the olivine and pyroxene silicate groups are tentatively identified across Vesta's surface, where olivines are seen to dominate in the eastern hemisphere and pyroxenes in the western hemisphere. The analysis of their iron content through the shifts in the peak wavelengths (Jäger et al. 1998), reveals that pyroxenes in the western hemisphere have the highest Fe/Mg ratios. |
