Abstract: Massive clusters in the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds are discussed on the basis of available mass estimates and integrated magnitudes. If a lower mass limit of 105 Msun is taken as a definition for massive clusters, then only globular clusters can be considered in the Milky Way. None of the very young star-forming or starburst regions seems to be more massive than a few 104 Msun. In the Large Magellanic Cloud, a few true population II and several young "globular" clusters reach a mass larger than 105 Msun.
