Abstract: Various kinds of symmetries and asymmetries seen in planetary nebulae (PNe) are often attributed to binarity. Binary evolution in the preceding asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase, when the future PN material is ejected and supposedly interacts with the companion, is therefore essential for understanding of the asymmetrical PNe formation. Here an attempt to study the orbital evolution of such systems by means of a simple method is presented. The procedure is based on detailed, numerical single star evolutionary tracks, modified by introducing binary interactions and combined with orbital elements evolution. Considered effects include: mass loss and its possible enhancement, accretion of the matter from the AGB wind onto the second component, angular momentum loss from the system and its transfer via tidal forces. Relations between the model parameters and final (post-AGB) binary characteristics are briefly discussed.
