Abstract: We present high sensitivity observations at visible and near infrared (NIR) wavelengths of 20 edge-on galaxies, to study the vertical light distribution at large distances from the symmetry plane and the radial truncation and warping of stellar disks, i.e. the galactic regions with very low surface brightness. The NIR is particularly useful when studying the region around galactic planes since optical data are obscured by dust. Preliminary results about these phenomena are shown.
