Abstract: We explored the possibility that Alcor (80 UMa) underwent a huge outburst around 4000 years ago, similar to that experienced by P Cygni in the 17th century and by eta Carinae in the 19th century, by using, on the one hand, the analysis of the Mesopotamian myths linked to this star and, on the other hand, the available spectroscopic and photometric data of 80 UMa.
