Abstract: Most of our knowledge about the dark halos of disk and irregular galaxies comes from HI observations. Simulations of hierarchical galaxy formation make predictions about the expected structure and properties of dark halos: are these predictions consistent with the observed properties? In this talk, I will review this question, with particular emphasis on the contribution of HI studies.
