Abstract: Optical spectra of the Be star FYCMa show transient shell phases and variable radial velocity and shape of He I emission components. Therefore, FYCMa closely resembles the Be+sdO binary ΦPer. Moreover these variations in the optical spectrum are consistent with the period of P=37.26 ± 0.03 d derived from the UV N v lines. The variations are due to the Be primary's circumstellar disk, which is ionized where it faces the hot companion. Next to ΦPer, 59Cyg, and possibly HR2142, FY CMa is only the fourth candidate to the group, although such systems should be relatively common.
