Abstract: |
We present the first results from an XMM-Newton serendipitous medium-deep survey, in the framework of the HELLAS2XMM collaboration, which is in progress and currently covers nearly three square degrees. The sample we have is one of the largest available to date in the 0.5-2 keV band and surely the largest in the 2-10 keV band at the limiting X-ray flux. The measured Log(N)-Log(S) are found to be in good agreement with previous determinations. An analysis of the broad-band X-ray spectral properties has been carried out, finding a population of hard intrinsically absorbed sources. These objects are likely to contribute substantially to the hard X-ray background. |
