Abstract: Here we discuss some of the effects generated by the interaction between a spiral wave and a magnetized thick gaseous disk. The results of recent 2D and 3D MHD simulations for the Parker instability inside a spiral arm, and the formation of large scale shocks and hydraulic jumps by spiral waves, are reviewed. Some works in progress and interesting trends for future studies are also briefly described.
