Abstract: Spiral galaxies are continually accreting mass even to the present day, since we observe that many of them, including the Milky Way, in the process of swallowing up smaller companions. I will review the recent observations and the recent numerical experiments, that suggest that repeated accretions, perhaps even of ``miniscule'' (~ 108msun) dwarf galaxies have a significant impact on the dynamical and chemical evolution of the primary galaxy.
