Abstract: Intraday Variability (IDV) which is observed at cm wavelengths in the most compact Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) presents a unique opportunity in advancing our understanding of the structure and emission processes of these objects. Interstellar scintillation has been recently established as a direct cause of IDV; therefore the study of IDV sources also brings into focus the issues related to our local interstellar medium, its content, structure and distribution. In this contribution I will review the latest developments and will discuss the future directions in IDV research.
