Abstract: |
We describe the design for the core of the Data Cycle System (DCS) that is presently under development for NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) by the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). The DCS will support the science operation of SOFIA for its anticipated 20-year lifetime, and hence must embody the concept of continuous improvement. To meet this fundamental requirement, the core DCS is modular and grouped into five functional domains (User Interaction, Task Library, Data Acquisition, Data Reduction, and Data Storage), each of which is built from novel technologies developed on top of standard foundations such as Corba and XML. Under this design, the core DCS will integrate data collection, reduction, and archiving, as well as observation planning and archival research, across a heterogeneous collection of system pipelines and data formats. |
