Abstract: |
The Internet has brought many ways of sharing information, but basic tools to meet the needs of scientific collaboration are still underdeveloped. Here we look at the current state of some of these tools and the applications which provide some of the required functionality. While it appears as though the World Wide Web should provide an ideal medium to support collaboration, most of the development in web applications has, of late, been spurred by commercial, rather than scientific needs. From the state of some of the projects we will examine, it appears that there may be hope for the required tools in the future. |
