Abstract: |
As part of a global analysis of deep star counts to constrain scenarios of galaxy formation and evolution, we investigate possible differences of IMF slopes between the old disc, the thick disc, and the spheroid populations at low masses. Intermediate and deep star counts in the optical and near infrared allow one to estimate the IMF slope assuming a population synthesis model and using Monte Carlo simulations. We find a slight trend of the IMF slope with metallicity, the IMF being flatter at low metallicity. |
