In this paper we describe the progresses made from Coralie to HARPS in the field of instrumentation and data reduction software for precise Doppler velocity measurements. The special features of HARPS are discussed. In particular, the great advantages of the simultaneous ThAr reference techniques compared to the iodine absorption cell calibration are pointed out. |
