Abstract: The COROT mission and its capability in detecting new planets is reviewed. Specifically, we describe the status of instrumental development, simulation studies of star light curves and performance in planet radius measurement. COROT will discover a large number of medium-size hot planets, and could potentially find the first terrestrial planets in the habitable zone of a cool star. In combination with radial velocity measurements, significant statistics on extrasolar systems should be revealed.
