Abstract: We discuss certain issues related to the determination of cosmological parameters and the nature of dark energy component from cosmological supernova observations. The main results are: (i) Even if the precise value of the dark energy equation of state wX is known from observations, it is not possible to determine the nature of the dark energy source using only kinematical or geometrical measurements. (ii) Although the full data set rule out nonaccelerating models, the high and low redshift subsets, individually, can admit non-accelerating models with zero dark energy. (iii) Although one can determine the present value of wX accurately from the data, it is difficult to constrain the evolution of wX.
