Abstract: The SuperNova Legacy Survey1 is a 5 year project aiming at detecting, monitoring and studying several hundreds type Ia supernova up to redshift z = 1. Its main scientific motivation is to precisely measure the Dark Energy equation of state. ESO, through the VLT, plays a major role in the spectroscopic follow-up of supernova candidates. A large program has been granted to identify them and to measure their redshift. In this poster, we present preliminary results of the first year of spectroscopic observations with the ESO VLT.
