Abstract: |
Distributed databases in astronomy now have the advantage of providing access to large datasets utilizing web networking protocols. The NVO has pioneered one such protocol, a SkyNode, and in this chapter the student will learn how to compile and configure a local full SkyNode. The full SkyNode is web service-enabled and provides programmatic access to cross-correlation operations between networked SkyNodes, opening a window to astronomical multi-dimensional space. The reader will also register their service in a NVO Registry, and perform advanced queries on their full SkyNodes in the Open SkyQuery client portal. Although this full SkyNode exercise demonstrates access to a MySQL database, the implementation and utilities in the NVOSS software fullskynode package can be easily reconfigured for other database connections. |
