Abstract: Recent developments in dynamical theories of star formation may be essential to understanding the origin of stellar initial mass function. In this article I focus on what dynamical models imply for the formation of brown dwarfs. I also consider how global collapse of molecular clouds might help explain how star clusters form (the dominant mode of star formation). Finally, I suggest that a dynamical picture of molecular cloud core formation naturally results in the frequent production of binary or multiple star systems.
