Abstract: A wealth of new data from infrared and submillimeter telescopes has spurred progress in the study of galaxy spectral energy distributions at long wavelengths. In this contribution I focus on recent semi-empirical work in modeling galaxy infrared spectral energy distributions. A range of applications and topics are discussed including the environmental impact on dust emissivity, the utility of infrared-based photometric redshifts, and the possibilities that will arise with the advent of SIRTF.
