Abstract: |
The implementation of large field imagers on 4 − 8-m telescopes has enabled comprehensive surveys of the stellar contents of spiral galaxies in nearby groups. Here, the spatial extent of the brightest stars in nearby disk galaxies are discussed. The stellar disk is traced out to distances of 6 or more disk scale lengths in four nearby galaxies spanning a range of morphologies; extended stellar disks thus appear to be the norm in nearby groups. |
