The history of RS Ophiuchi from its initial observed outburst in 1898 though the 1985 event is described. The account is somewhat personal. Attention is also called to various stellar systems in addition to the repeating novae such as the symbiotic stars and the symbiotic novae, all of which have red giant companions, but whose outbursts are very different. |
