Abstract: |
I review the techniques used for polarimetry at millimetre to far-infared wavelengths, and summarise the opportunities available to observers. Three different instrument designs exist, and these can be used for either continuum or spectral linear polarization (in one case, also detecting circular polarization). The observing modes are simple extensions to ordinary imaging or photometry, detecting an extra modulation or correlation that contains the polarization signal. A very wide variety of sources can be observed, and I discuss some of the limits to the techniques as well as future refinements in instrumentation. |
