Abstract: OH MegaMaser activity as observed in the nearby Universe provides opportunities to study the population of active galaxies at significantly higher redshifts. The understanding of the OH emission phenomenology in nearby ULIRGs may be used to add to the diagnostics of the properties of the SMG population. We discuss the interpretation of observational data of nearby galaxies with a nuclear ISM that supports OH MM emission and the predictions that can be made about the detection of OH MM at higher redshifts.
