Abstract: The Hubble Legacy Archive (HLA) will allow users to obtain and explore high-quality Hubble Space Telescope (HST) data products using the world wide web. Footprints are a key component for the HLA. They provide both underlying spatial search capability via standard IVOA data service protocols and web browser visualization of HST observation data products in the form of region outlines. The footprint web tool also provides tabular science metadata information about each displayed data product: ACS, WFPC2, STIS, NICMOS, FOS and GHRS are supported. The tool is based on a spherical geometric model and database search algorithms developed at Johns Hopkins University for the SDSS (Gray et al 2004, Szalay et al 2007). The footprint service provides web service accessibility to the region descriptions in the IVOA Space Time Coordinate representation for interoperability between archives and compatibility with VO-enabled applications.
