Abstract: Imaging polarimetry can separate dust-scattered light (polarized component) from direct star light (unpolarized component). We have employed the method using HST/NICMOS to study the structure of intrinsically compact, optically thin circumstellar shells of proto-planetary nebulae to gain more insights into the mass loss history during the late asymptotic giant branch phase.
