Abstract: If present in the interstellar medium, pyruvic acid is a molecule that could initiate the formation of primitive, vesicle-like structures throughout the Galaxy. We outline how it could be formed in interstellar chemistry and report recent laboratory work to measure its rotational spectrum. The results from this work will enable a search for interstellar pyruvic acid to be undertaken.
