Abstract: β Cephei stars have a quite simple internal structure: a convective core and a radiative envelope. It is therefore worth trying to describe them with two-zone polytropic models. These models can indeed be used to isolate the influence of each parameter on the frequency spectrum and generate a good qualitative explanation of this spectrum. In this paper it is shown that qualitative similarities exist between physical models of β Cephei stars and twozone polytropic models, but these similarities cannot be used to derive physical parameters of β Cephei variables.
