Abstract: PROBA2 is a ESA technology demonstration mission successfully launched in November 2nd 2009. The prime instrument on board of PROBA2 is SWAP (Sun Watcher using Active Pixel System detector and Image Processing), a full disk solar imager with a narrow bandpass filter centered at 17.4 nm (Fe IX - XI) and a fast cadence of ≈1 min. The telescope is an extreme ultraviolet (EUV), high cadence (of up to 1 frame per minute) imager based on an enchanted APS CMOS detector. The field of view will be wider than EIT’s by ≈20% allowing SWAP to observe a larger portion of the lower corona and bridge the gap between EIT and LASCO-C2.
