Abstract: We have been specially interested in recognizing stellar activity and possibly the presence of strong magnetic fields using the GAUDI archives. We started our studies with the FEROS spectra of the database, but we met some significant problems in deriving the classical activity indices. So we decided to calibrate some original chromospheric indices fitted for FEROS spectrograms, based on the ultraviolet doublet and the infrared triplet of ionized calcium. We came up with a reliable activity index, that allowed us to identify the more active G- and K-type stars in the database. The search for magnetic fields in the same stars confirmed the reliability of the index.
