Abstract: |
Providing a theoretical explanation of the generation of large-scale magnetic fields, as observed in many cosmical bodies,
is a central and long-standing problem in astrophysical fluid dynamics. Traditionally it is investigated within the framework
of mean field electrodynamics. Here I focus on one of the difficulties with this standard mean field formulation, namely the
presence of a competing, and probably dominant, small-scale dynamo. |
