Abstract: PRACE project is preparing a persistent pan-European High-Performance Computing service. Several world-class centres will form the top level of the European HPC ecosystem, providing European researchers and engineers access to capability computers. This requires a wide range of administrative and technical work to be completed within the two years of the project. PRACE status at mid year of 2009 is presented, highlighting key technical achievements like applications and benchmarks preparation, systems and prototypes assessment and training. The foreseeable start of the European HPC Research Infrastructure is 2010.
