Abstract: In its first five years, the FUSE mission has already provided us with a wealth of data on white dwarf stars and their surface composition. We summarize the results of a FUSE Observatory Program aimed at a sample of 42 hot white dwarfs spanning a wide range of effective temperatures and surface gravities. One of the objectives of the program is to search for peculiar abundance patterns in an unbiased sample of white dwarfs. This sample is also well suited for a comparison with stellar parameters determined from optical data. In this paper, we present an abundance analysis of heavy elements detected in FUSE spectra of a subset of stars from the survey, and we discuss the implications for the diffusion theory.
