Abstract: |
In many narratives, astronomical phenomena are the main themes that
set the tone. However there are others in which astronomical
references appear only briefly or fleetingly, yet can be
all-important. These more subtle uses of astronomy can be quite
varied. I will give four examples from history and the popular
literature of the last few centuries, from the drama of the court room
to the theater, where uses of astronomy at critical points determine
the course of the story. |
