Abstract: This paper briefly summarizes the observations of active galaxies in the high energy band, juxtaposing the isotropic emission against that attributable to the blazar phenomenon, which is presumably associated with the relativistic jet. It briefly describes the main features of the currently popular leptonic models for radiation processes believed to be dominant in the AGN jets, and closes with the description of the GLAST Χ-ray, as well as the Suzaku and NuSTAR X-ray sensitive, satellite-based instruments, all three bound to significantly improve our understanding of the structure of blazars.
