Abstract: More than 500 planets are presently known to orbit around stars other than the Sun. The characterization of these planetary systems needs a precise determination of the parameters of the central stars (masses, radii, ages, abundances, etc.). In this framework, asteroseismology represents an important tool which may lead to a precision never reached before. At the present time, with large databases, automatic solutions are sought for these parameter determinations. However systematic uncertainties do remain and the final models are not unique, due to several problems including the internal helium abundance. Detailed studies of individual stars help find solutions to such difficulties. Here I discuss some details about the characterization of exoplanet-host stars from asteroseismology and the importance of the helium and heavy element abundances in this respect.
