Abstract: |
There has been a recent interest to revive optical Stellar Intensity
Interferometry (SII) using Imaging Air Cherenkov Telescope (IACT)
arrays. Planned arrays containing nearly 100 telescopes, and separated by up
to 1 km, will provide a dense sampling of the (u, v) plane. This
will enable the implementation of recent developments in phase retrieval
techniques for model-independent image reconstruction. Simulations indicate
that sub-milliarcsecond features as well as temperature differences of the
order of a few hundred K can be imaged. An overview of the
imaging capabilities of IACT arrays used as intensity interferometers at short
(λ ≈ 400 nm) wavelengths is presented. |
