Abstract: |
The central star (WD 0044–121) of the very large planetary nebula (PN) NGC 246 (Skull Nebula, PN G118.8–74.7) is an
extremely hot, hydrogen-deficient member of the PG 1159 spectroscopic subtype, within which it is the brightest
(mV = 11.78) and one of the most massive (0.74 M☉) stars. It shows non-radial g-mode pulsations,
that are typical for GW Vir (= PG 1159–035) variables. We present preliminary results of a state-of-the-art
NLTE spectral analysis by means of model-atmosphere techniques that is based on high-resolution and high-S/N
(F)UV spectroscopy. |
