Abstract: |
The Galactic Halo is the oldest and most metal-poor component of the Galaxy.
It is studied in detail both to understand the formation and evolution of galaxies,
as well as the formation and evolution of the earliest stars.
With this aim in mind, we plan to couple a population synthesis model to
a semi-analytical galaxy formation model to determine the characteristics of the
binary white dwarf population and their observability in the Gaia era.
Here we present preliminary results of the properties of the population of
binary white dwarfs in the halo of our Milky Way galaxy.
These simulations are part of a theoretical toolset we are developing for the
interpretation of the large volume of white dwarf data expected from the Gaia
mission. |
