Abstract: We present a description of the main optical features of CanHiS (Cananea High-resolution Spectrograph), a high performance —ℛ ≈ 160,000 and efficiency ≈ 36% Hunten et al. (1991), spectrograph conceived and constructed at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory (LPL, The University of Arizona) and permanently transferred in 2010 to the Observatorio Astrofísico Guillermo Haro (OAGH), in Cananea, Sonora. We also show the results of the first tests conducted at the OAGH and describe the possible optical upgrades for a wider spectral coverage range. The spectrograph will be used in a program devoted to the precise determination of stellar chemical abundances of nearby solar-like stars.
