Abstract: |
We present a shape select algorithm for searching merging galaxies among large astronomical
surveys. Galaxy mergers usually have complex structures and exhibit irregular shapes, thus
searching irregular pattern might be a practical approach to select possible merger candidates
among large survey data. We use binarization technique to determine the shape of detected objects
and quantify it into a set of shape descriptors. With these descriptors we can locate relatively
irregular objects as possible merger candidates for further visual inspection. |
